Pregnancy Can Make Your Face Do Funny Things

Hormone changes during pregnancy can be to blame for darkening of the skin. This is known as Melasma. The great thing is it can be treated.

Seven Things That Make Medical Grade Skincare Unique

1. BETTER QUALITY INGREDIENTS.
Medical grade, or pharmaceutical grade products are required to contain ingredients that are 99% pure. Products that are purchased at department stores, drug stores, or on Amazon are not held to the same standards. They may contain fillers.

2. MORE OF EACH INGREDIENT.
We’ve all heard of the important active ingredients recommended for healthier skin: retinoids, vitamin C, antioxidants, and the list goes on and on). Medical grade skin care products have higher concentrations of active ingredients.
If there is an active ingredient in an over the counter cosmetic product, there just may not be enough of it to have an effect, or it may take much longer to get an effect.

3. HIGH RESEARCH STANDARDS, PURITY AND SAFETY REGULATED BY THE FDA.
Medical grade skin care products must have clinical research studies to back up any claims about their benefits. On the other hand, over the counter skin care products do not need to have clinical studies or research behind their claims.
Medical grade skin care products have Health Canada oversight. And by the way, the Health Canada only considers two types of categories - cosmetic, and pharmacuetical grade (contrary to popular belief there is no such thing as a cosmeceutical, under Health Canada law).

4. DELIVERY TO DEEP SKIN LAYERS.
It’s all about layers! If you’ve purchased something from a non medical professional, in any store, or online, understand these agents only work on the outermost skin layer called the epidermis. They sit on the surface and barely penetrate into deeper layers.
Pharmaceutical or medical grade skin care products are formulated to be delivered to the dermis. This is where the collagen scaffold, and collagen producing cells live. To make any real changes to the skin, the deep dermis has to be impacted.

5. MEDICAL GRADE CAN ONLY BE PRESCRIBED BY A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.
One of the biggest benefits of using medical grade skin care products is that in order to access them, you’ll receive recommendations from a medical professional! When I researched the lines to offer in my medical spa, once a line is chosen there is an extensive period of training so that I can cut out the guesswork for you. I’m more likely to arrive at the best regimen for you, saving you money in the long run, and taking the stress out of continued trial and error.

6. MEDICAL GRADE: NOT NECESSARILY MORE EXPENSIVE.
Most medical grade skin care lines are from companies you’ve never heard of (ZO Skin Health, Skin Better Science, Environ, Alumier MD), although many of my clients are “in the know” and have done their research so this statement may not be totally true! But they are not always more expensive, for three reasons:
NO MARKETING COSTS BUILT IN
Generally speaking, these companies do not spend their money on advertising campaigns, instead choosing to spend that money on research, and quality product development. So medical grade products are not always more expensive than their over-the-counter (OTC) counterparts.
THEY WORK, SO YOU'RE NOT THROWING AWAY MONEY
You also have to consider the piles of money wasted on over the counter products that you purchase and stop using, simply because they don’t work, leaving you frustrated and disappointed. The product graveyard in your bathroom is proof!
YOU'LL USE LESS OF IT
Because the active ingredient concentrations are higher, and they penetrate into the dermis, generally you’ll need to use less product to achieve great results.

7. FORMULATED FOR ALL, VS DIRECTED TO SPECIFIC NEEDS.
We want skin care products tailored to our specific skin type, right? If you’re not buying your products from a medical professional, you’re self-diagnosing. So in the over the counter world, products have to work broadly on all skin types.
With a medical grade regimen tailored thoughtfully to your individual skin, product combinations suitable for your specific skin type and condition can be assembled to achieve your desired results.

As you can see, we are passionate about skin health. Like everything in life, there’s no one-size-fits-all skin care regimen. At the same time, you can’t get something for nothing! I want you to enjoy the best possible version of your skin that we can achieve, and reveal.

Am I suggesting that medical-grade products are always superior? Absolutely not. They may have a reputation for being harsh, perhaps because of applying the wrong product to someone’s skin type, and there are plenty of excellent over the counter choices for specific aspects of your regimen.

Microdermabrasion

What is it?

"Girl, let me school you! Microdermabrasion is what every beauty maven is raving about. It's a non-invasive treatment that removes the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Trust me, your complexion will be gleaming like a diamond after this procedure!"

What Are the Benefits of Microdermabrasion?

Alright, listen up beauties! Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment that helps exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin. It’s like a magic wand for your face!

So, how does it work? Well, a tiny device is used to spray fine crystals onto your skin, which are then vacuumed away. This gentle abrasion removes dead skin cells and promotes new cell growth. It also helps to boost collagen production, which gives your skin that youthful, plump look we all crave.

The benefits of microdermabrasion are seriously amazing. First of all, it helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, so you can say goodbye to those pesky signs of aging. It also helps to reduce hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and other blemishes, leaving you with smoother, more even-toned skin. Plus, it can even help with clogged pores, which means fewer breakouts and a clearer complexion overall.

But wait, there’s more! Microdermabrasion also helps your skin better absorb moisturizers and other skincare products, which means you’ll get more bang for your buck with your beauty routine. And unlike other more invasive treatments, microdermabrasion doesn’t leave your skin red or swollen, so you can get right back to your normal routine.

So, there you have it, folks. Microdermabrasion is the way to go if you want smoother, brighter, more youthful-looking skin. Trust me, your face will thank you.

High Frequency

Alright, ladies and gents, we're diving deep into the world of high frequency skincare. Buckle up and get ready for some serious glow-up action.

So, what is high frequency and how does it work? It's a beauty treatment that uses a special device that emits a mild electrical current to boost collagen production, kill bacteria, and improve circulation. Translation: it zaps away zits, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and leaves you with a fresh, rejuvenated complexion. Sounds pretty sweet, right?

But wait, there's more! High frequency also stimulates lymphatic drainage, which helps to flush out toxins from your skin and reduce puffiness. And if you're dealing with dark circles or under-eye bags, this treatment can help with that too! Basically, it's like a mini workout for your face, giving you a more sculpted, radiant look.

So, how many sessions do you need to see the magic happen? Well, that depends on your skin type and concerns. Generally, it's recommended to get a series of 6-12 treatments spaced out over a few weeks or months for optimal results. But even after just one or two sessions, you'll notice a difference in the overall health and appearance of your skin.

In short, high frequency is the secret weapon your skincare routine has been missing. It's quick, effective, and totally worth the investment. Say goodbye to dull, tired-looking skin and hello to a more vibrant, youthful glow. You're welcome. 😉

Microneedling

What is it?

Oh honey, have you heard about micro-needling? Let me school you on this game-changing skincare treatment.

First things first, let's talk about how it works. Micro-needling involves using a device with tiny needles that puncture the skin in order to stimulate the body's natural healing process. This helps to increase collagen production and improve the overall texture and appearance of your skin. Think of it as giving your skin a kick in the pants to start working harder and looking better.

But wait, there's more! Micro-needling also helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scars, hyperpigmentation, and even acne. And let's not forget about the benefits it has for overall skin health - it can improve the absorption of skincare products and boost the effectiveness of other treatments.

Now, I know what you might be thinking - won't this hurt like hell? The answer is no, honey. While there may be a bit of discomfort, it's nothing that can't be numbed with a topical anesthetic. Plus, the benefits far outweigh any temporary discomfort.

So there you have it, folks - micro-needling is a must-try for anyone looking to up their skincare game. It's like hitting the jackpot for healthy, glowing skin. Are you ready to give it a go?

As you can see, we are passionate about skin health. Like everything in life, there’s no one-size-fits-all skin care regimen. At the same time, you can’t get something for nothing! I want you to enjoy the best possible version of your skin that we can achieve, and reveal.
